Southern Cross Station Pty Ltd is the operational arm of Civic Nexus (an Infranexus subsidiary) and manages the Southern Cross Station facility under a management agreement with the Department of Transport and Planning.
Southern Cross Station is Australia’s largest public transportation hub with over 5 million patrons monthly. It links interstate, regional and suburban trains and coaches in Melbourne and offers connections to major airports, tram and taxi services. It is the key interface of the Melbourne CBD and Docklands, in the fastest growing area of the city, and is the busiest multi-modal transport hub in Victoria.
The station interfaces with the nearby 56,000 seat Marvel Stadium via the Bourke Street Bridge, with additional patrons passing through the facility during major Melbourne events. It includes over 50 retail tenancies including fast food, a supermarket, Asian hawker hall, a licensed premises and the Spencer Outlet Car Park with 780 spaces.
The way people use transport, commute, work and shop continues to evolve, and the Southern Cross team are now delivering a multi-faceted retail and service strategy to help rebuild visitation momentum and shape the station's future.
Did you know?
The station’s historic Water Tower Clock was originally erected at Flinders Street Station in 1882 and moved to Spencer Street Station in 1910. It was removed as part of the station's redevelopment in the mid-1960s, and only returned to Southern Cross Station in 2014.
